Can anyone tell me exactly what symproxysvc.exe is, and why it keeps accessing the internet and stealing all my bandwidth? (I'm only on a 56k, so I tend to notice these things) I think it's something to do with Norton Firewall, but I'm not completely sure. But what I do know is that when I control - alt - delete, there's no symproxysvc.exe running, but in Norton, I look at the bandwidth monitor, and it's there.
Also, it crashed this morning with an illegal op dialogue, when I was trying to look at a website (www.csports.net - the big online ranking system for games)

Thanks everyone, but strangely, it doesn't seem to be happening anymore. I'm still a bit confused though, could you explain what it is that this proxy service actually does?

put the filename into google, and theres your answer. :)

Seems to be part of some norton product, probably norton personal firewall. And from what I've read, and given the filename, that seems to be the proxy service, hence all your net usage is probably going through it, hence it using bandwidth.
Just a guess though. :)

Find the file, back it up, then delete it and see if everything breaks.

Nah it's not spyware - my computer's clean.

On a probably unrelated subject, can anyone get onto www.gametiger.com ?
Just I think it a bit strange that I can get onto nether that, nor csports. Well, I can get onto csports, just it times out whenever I try to use it.

Have you got Adaware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/aaw.html ?

I doubt that file is spyware, but it's always handy to have adaware anyway. :-)

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
