Basically i have the opertunity to buy an L reg Mondeo 2.0si 16valve, it is blue and has a little spoiler on the back, the condition is really good, it has recently had a new timing belt, clutch, exhaust, windscreen and a catogry c service (whatever that is, it has air bag, sun roof, electric windows, immobilizer, power steering and ABS, it is also rated at 138bhp, the problem may be that it has 105000 miles on the clock, is this worth me getting?, it is only gonna cost me £550, also the dilemma i am having is my little 1.1 fiesta has just had loads done to it, it has 85000 miles on it and is an L reg but the engine has been completely overhauled and reconditioned, it has a new clutch, new rear wheel bearings, new alternator. so would it be worth me getting rid of that as i reckon the fiesta will last longer and give me less stress that the mondea but the mondeo is a nice car and a steal at that price, do you see my dilema!!!.

Check with your insurance company before you buy it, to make sure that you can afford suck a leap.

A 2l engine is almost lost in a mondeo because of the size and weight of the car. If you also enjoy the handling of a small car like the fiesta (stick 16inch alloys on a fester and they really handle, i had one) then unless you're prepared to spend a lot of money on having the suspension stiffened (about £400) the mondeo is going to handle like a barge in comparison.

Peronally, I'd stick the mondeo engine in the fiesta. It will fit on the existing mounts of the fester, and any good garage will charge about 2-300 for the job roll in, roll out. It'll be incredibly fast from the lightweight-ness of the fester, and still handle like a small car. Going this route though, buy all new aftermatket bushes for the engine mounts to counter the extra torq.ue

If you decide not to take the mondeo, let me know, as I know a mate who will definately want the engine in his fester (my old fester!), and he'd sort you a game or something for the contact. I'd have it in my escort but I'm holding out for a cosworth.

Stick with the fiesta mate, the mondeo will give you loads of problems and are renouned for having electrical problems. Besides it's way to big a car and was probably once a company car, so it's probably been ratted.

Quentin Wilson (bald guy used to be on top gear) done a little piece in the Daily Mirror the other day about "good" old bangers. He said old mondeos are supposed to be pretty reliable.

No idea how much truth in that. I've only ever driven Vauxhall's myself.

Well your getting it for a good price, not sure what the list price is but maybe worth checkin on www.parkers.co.uk

The insurance may go up because it's a bigger car but not by much.

Try putting your details on some insurance sites online to see what prices are coming out to compare.

Would say start with tesco.com as they're blooming cheap :)

It comes with loads of reciepts for services and parts and im 24 with 3 years no claims so that would make it a bit lower on insurance.

Depends, is the Mondeo an ex company car?

If it is then it'll have been serviced regularly so should be in better nick than maybe your Fiesta. Don't worry about high mileage, car engines are normally built these days to go on forever.

Unless your talking about a Cinquicento (sp) ;)
