its ok i fixed it, winxp had installed the sis agp bridge not the standard pci to pci bridge for my agp slot, so it was trying to write to my mainboards onboard graphics, which are diabled because of the agp card

few things to try:....
Fisrt try reseating all component and also try ram in differant slot, make sure all fans are running, this includes the CPU GPU (graphics) and PSU (powersupply).

Second thing to do is run it in safe mode, to do this all you have to do is press F5 or F8 repeadedly when your computer starts to access the hard drive after the post screen (just to make sure) then select boot in safe mode and see if it does it again, if so then it is most likely a hardware problem as most of the drivers are not installed.

Third when you are in windows run a cpu stress test which you can download from www.download.com and search for cpu stress test, if this hangs your pc then it could well be a overheating problem, check that your cpu fan isnt riddled with dust and still spins, aslo check to see if the cpu heatsink is seated properly.

Fourth, If this lot fails then it is probably a software\driver problem and the best way to sort this is to stop some programs from loading on startup, although i assume you have not installed any programs after re-installing windows?, to do this go to START>RUN and type MSCONFIG and press enter, now under the startup tab untick some of the ticked items but not all because some are used to run windows, only do this if you know ruffly what you are doing.

Right-click on My Computer and hit Manage. In the dialog that appears are there any devices shown with yellow exclamation marks by them??

Your original post really doesn't help very much. What do you want us to say - "Go into the videocard properties and disable 'crash every 10 minutes'"? The very least we need is your FULL system specification, and assurances you have the latest drivers for all hardware.

I don't know the problem, so this post is pointless. But mine does it too. It doesn't do as much anymore, but it would do it either after I'd used my CD-RW or if I'd left it on all night.. your fan is probably hot like mine!!

That's probably not the reason though, it could be plenty of things!! :D
