Right i am new to this and was wondering what i would need to set up a chat forum online, i need to know everything i need, like what software to use to create it (don't really wanna learn html) what extensions the domain host will need, and any other gubbins, maybe a tutorial, also i am a fast learner.

I strongly recommend that you download the forums that are supplied at those websites mentioned below. They are free. But if you really want to make your own, you need to know PHP. Here's where to start learning PHP:

You can get a free one by signing up at www.bravenet.com

Its a bit limited but you could use it until you've fould a better one.

And you could use this one, but you need a good server with decent PHP and database support to do it:

I agree. PHP is a good one to use.

If you're a fast learner, you really should try learning HTML, it's pretty easy if you're a fast learner, a lot easier than most other stuff!
You probably already know, but you can get programs like Frontpage, Netobjects Fusion, Dreamweaver ETC that automatically creates the HTML code for you.

I'm not a huge fan of PHP, but I would reccomend that too. But it might take a bit longer to get used to if you don't know HTML..

Most good ones are in php although I personally know little about it and you'd be best asking someone else about it. Either that or you can get a free one with advertising at quite a few places.
