Though usually filled with flippant political rhetoric and stupid interviews with E-list TV celebs, todays paper was different. Flicking through the pages I discovered a quirky article entitled 'Teen Tribes - And How To Identify Them'.
Being 18, I believed the article may 'reach out and grab the inner feelings of my generation'. In actuality, it was a highly unrealistic look at teenage stereotypes, the article seemingly being aimed at the easily-confused granny audience.
The categorys: Goth, Trendy, Scally, Sk8er (the 8 obviously making the newspaper cool, hip and 'down' with the younger generation), Mosher, Sporty, Townie and Geek. In each of the categories were a number of fields, including Heroes, Music and Philosophy.
Apparently, Townies worship their parents, listen to S Club and want to be Teachers when they are older and Sk8ers listen to Alanis Morisette and Limp Bizkit.
Though I find this categorisation all very patronising, I'm just glad they didn't create one for gamers. I can see it now:
Gamers
Heroes: Spyro the Dragon, Lara Croft (also featured in the Geek category) and Pokemon.
Style: Glued to Playstation 2.
Music: Ocarina of Time soundtrack.
Philosophy: The Sims never gets boring.
Won't Say: Let's go outside.
Why not try make your own vicious stereotypes. Use the grid above to create harsh superficialities about anything from Gamers to your parents.
Anyway, I'm off now, I can't leave my poor sims alone for too long, no matter what people say, it's more than a virtual dolls house...

Once again I was confronted by the fact I don't really fit in anywhere

You get the originators of the culture who are just doing their thing, and suddenly it's fashionable and "in". Every clueless sheep-person suddenly thinks they can be cool-by-association and adopts the clothes/music of whatever lifestyle is the thing this month.
Like I've said, Levi's have produced an MC5 t-shirt and now you can spot on on media types as they sup wine in Hoxton (I saw these people last night) and talk about their money. These clowns have never heard the band and still dont know what they were about, it's simply a badge of cool to be shown off to other braying donkeys around the water-trough.
Magazines like Vogue, and to a lesser extent things like Metro and Time Out, attempt to tell you what's cool and hip with adverts placed by? Yup, the same bars/clothing suppliers that want you to spend your money on trinkets and baubles to indicate that you are a "worthy person" and worth getting to know.
It's ####ing sad when somebody thinks by parading around in a piece of clothing that someone will think "Wow, I like that person's style and think they are interesting and a valid human being".
You can hide a lack of self-confidence and belief by draping yourself in expensive clothes and using yourself as a billboard for clothing manufacturers.
But hey, if some people are stupid enough to fall for it then that's their own fault. I hope they get taken for every penny they earn.

Heroes: Arrogant world leaders getting themselves into political duplicity and celebrities deprived of the intelligence to from the infinite number of cameras invading their lives and destroying their families.
Style: In your face. Bribes, blackmail and outright lies, all of which contribute to a decent "story"
Music: Wake up, by Rage against the machine
Philosophy: The only good news is bad news, and where there is no bad news, make some up.
Won't Say: Anything nice
