Drakan: The Ancients' Gates was one such title that I tried out a few months back but because I didn't get to grips with the controls immediately I left it gathering dust, until last Friday night.
Since then, I gave it a good workout for 2 hours, and from there got completely absorbed. It's a HUGE game! I've been playing on and off all weekend, and now have a backlog of quests to complete at my leisure, and the great thing is I've got the controls down pat and have gotten used to the realtime fighting (where casting a spell isn't just press one button, it's proper casting with the D-pad being used to make the appropriate hand signals for a particular spell).
It struck me that this is some of the most realistic fighting you can get, there's no pausing whilst you switch weapons or ready spells, you've got to time everything just right or get whacked with a large club whilst trying to get your hand motions readied for a fireball.
I'm kicking myself now for not giving the game a better chance when I first got it. I never knew frying orcs on Dragon-back could be so much fun :)
maybe i'll have a proper go sometime soon :D
