Prutton from Forest to Southampton for £2.5m
Fowler from Leeds to Man City for £6m
Higginbotham from Derby to Southampton for £1.5m
Ricketts from Bolton to Middlesboro for £3.5m etc
Finally, something good has come from all these clubs being in financial bother, they are able to get good English players for reasonable prices.
As a real, English football fan, I am getting sick of all these foreigners coming into our game. The more English lads given a chance in top-flight football the better.

Not on his current form! Even the "clinical" Heskey is outscoring him of late. He is only 9th in the premiership goal scoring table as well, with the only other english (available for national selection) striker being Beattie in the top ten.
Could be in in Houlliers best interests to flog him to someone like Barcalona if he doesnt pick up. Its really interesting that only Owen Hargreaves out of the England squad plays abroad, and you got near enough the whole Argentine team playing in Italy.
Baros looks to be developing into a quality player, and Houllier could go and buy at least 5 young promising foreign strikers with Owens price tag. One of them will turn out to be good!

More than likely. They don't want to see him go. Then again, in a world where Veron is worth £28.1m then maybe Owen could command a transfer record figure like that.

Exactly. More to the point, a lot of them price themselves out of the market with the wage demands. They want the same salaries as the Bergkamp's, Henry's, and Vieira's of the world, but few if any have anywhere near the same qualities to offer.
I agree 100% that it would be good to see more English players bought by English clubs, but at the end of the day, most simply aren't good enough. Those listed earlier are average-to-good players moving between average-to-good clubs. (I would once have rated Fowler as a quality player, but he's not been anything like his old self since leaving Liverpool.)
