This isn't a rant, or a praise or really a question. It's just a few lines thats going to make some things clearer. We all know that music genres influence the way people act and dress. It shouldnt but lets face it it really does. Some of the things i'm going to say will sound stereotypical and no not everyone is like this but its just going to be said.

Most people listen to pop music. Thats why its called pop, because its popular music that the masses listen to. There doesnt really seem to be any unique dress sense which goes with this genre, i guess people just wear highstreet names and atempt to look "cool" in the eyes of their peers. People who are into Rap and Hip Hop go for the more gangster sort of look generally. Baggy trousers, basketball tops, big gold chains, or if its chilly big puffy jackets, and of course big gold chains. Then we move onto the Alternative genre. People wear what they want, doesnt really matter if it does or doesnt have a name. The word casual comes to mind. Breaking down the genre of Rock we see that metallers go for the baggy jeans, hoodies and different distinguishable items of clothing. Goths are the extreme, the face paint, the chains, the spikes the works. This isnt the same for everyone who likes a genre its just a general observation.

One thing is for sure. People wear these clothes because the people who play or mime or mix these genres of music wear them. People like to think they are unique and made the dress sense up themselves but lets face it nobody has invented a style of dress on these forums. We get ideas from our idols and normally if we like it we stick to it. My second point, or third or fourth, lost count, is how hypocritical EVERYBODY is. Pops and Garage people use the word "Grunger" or "freak" to describe alternative rockers or metallers. Alternative people call popular people pikeys, Rockers frown upon Goths saying theyre weird and pointless. You can see how people act and whatever your into, even if you dont think you are being so, your probably being ignorant and not thinking of others when you see their dress sense.

We like to think we are different, our music defines who we are, and what we wear gives a cover to our book. The truth is we do have different opinions on life but one thing that we can all agree on is that everyone elses dress sense is lame and our genre of music rules all. Think about it for a while, are you a hypocrit, do you stereotype people just because of their taste in music?

And my point was that even if you follow a certain sub-culture or become a part of that sub culture, that sub culture doesn't become 'you'. And not everyone sits around pondering what clothes will fit into their sub culture more, some people just get some clothes... They don't have any illusions that they are 'original' and they're not trying to make some statement by what they wear...

But ultimately clothing is part of appearance, and people do make judgements on peoples appearance. Even something like looking at someone and seeing them as attractive / unattractive, you may be judging whether or not you want to bother talking to that person... Basically if they appear to have something in common (such as a similar taste in clothes) you will likely feel more comfortable about talking to them...

But ultimately it is still stupid to make ultimate judgements on someone based on appearance... Anyway, I can't be bothered to rant on this subject anymore...

I don't really care what kind of music someone likes... I like punk rock and many related genres, but one of my best mates is into all this garage stuff... I ask him why he wastes (in my opinion) his cash buying FCUK shoes for god knows how much, when I already know the reason... He wonders why I don't wear 'normal' clothes (instead I wear T-shirts with band names on...) and I tell him I'd rather help support a band I like than a big corporation who sell clothes based on what people think is 'cool'...

If I know someone likes certain genres or bands I'll probably think I have a better chance of liking them than someone who doesn't, but I don't think that you are the music you like... Some people (shock) like a lot of very different genres... so how are you going to judge them...? And many of these people who think they are being individualistic or whatever are just following a sub-culture...

I don't think "oh yes I'm individual, no-one else wears anything the same as me, I'm so good" I just wear clothes I like and can afford rather than waste god knows how much trying to look cool only to find out the brand I bought isn't cool anymore... or something... I am confusing myself, so rant over...
