If you are easily offended do not read, however these are just examples of where society has fallen victim to its pathetic self!

The Beatles Abbey Road album cover has now had Paul McCartneys Cigarette removed by computer experts for future prints, as so the picture is more politically correct! Has does that work then? He's the only one holding/smoking a cigarette as so is blatantly the minority out of the group and is representing the fact that smokers are a minority in society (If you want to get technical about it).

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Political Correctness, in a newspaper yesterday, there was an article about Burglars that are having rehabilitation meetings are being given Taxi money as it's too far for them to travel? So they can be bothered to rob someones house but not bothered enough to fix the problem they have and go straight! And another thing...why aren't they given bus passes? On one hand we're all being told to use public transport but on the other hand the government are condoning using other means of transport!

Ali G is another example of people getting off their high horses...Ali G as a character is portraying how young males try to act as if they are from the Bronx, or from the Hood, and as a representative for this culture shows how stupid people look trying to be gangstas when they're blatently not. However, you then get people thinking that his dissing them/being a racist etc and then sending Sacha death threats. Now forgive me if I'm wrong but doesn't Goodness Gracious Me take the micky out of everyday British life and its culture, yet theres never an eyebrow raised about that! Does that then symbolise that the people that are sending death threats to Sacha are racist towards his Jewish beleifs? Course it blooming doesn't....It's a flaming TV show....if you don't like it or agree with it, turn over the flipping channel!

Another thing that bugged me during the last few years of school was that a black board was no longer allowed to be called a black board and had to be called a chalk board...however a white board (the ones the nice smelling pens were used on..ahem!) remained a white board. Now I'm not affended that a white board is called a white board, so how in the world can anyone be offended that a black board is called a black board? Theres no racial reason why it's called a black board, it's called a black board because its a Board and it's Black...simple as that!

Does anyone know how many homeless people there are in Britain? No me neither, but I know it's going to be quite high. Therefore why is it that when we put asylum seekers in a centre where they are fed, watered, bathed, given enertainment, and have a roof over their head is that called inhumane? Their applications are being processed and they are living the life of riely off of my tax money which i would prefer to see spent on people such as the homeless. If you ever get the chance to speak to someone that has claimed asylum here ask them how much they have had in benifits from the government to help them survive, then ask a homeless person the same.

The problem with this country is that people are always trying to do what other people think is right E.G "I'll do that because It'll cause less offence"....I say 'what offence did it cause in the first place?'

Whats next, genetically modified pigs that CAN fly so they stop having the micky taken out of them?

Surely it'll be retitled "The Wizard of Australia"?

Michael Jackson has obtained a court-order that he must be described as 'normality-challenged'.

The Wizard of OZ is being remade with the People of short stature now singing "Follow the colour non-descript road". The Witches are not to be referred to a "wicked" but "women with alternative lifestyles" and the Tin man is to be recycled at the end of the film.

The Lion wants political asylum and the Scarecrow wants a change in the working time regulations that force him to work 72 hour shifts.

No, if you want to get technical about it, it conveys any number of messages.

"One of The Beatles smoked, so it must be OK"
"Smoke, and you too can become famous and have your face on an album cover"
"See this person, he smoked, and he's still alive. Surely smoking isn't that dangerous then?"
"Doesn't he look cool with that cigarette in his hand"

None of these are positive messages.

And as for the homeless, many of them are homeless through choice, and would spend any money given to them outright on cigarettes and alcohol.

The Beatles Abbey Road Albulm has only has the cigarette airbrushed out in a poster, released by United States poster companies. This was done without the permission of Apple Records or Paul McCartney, who own the rights to the image.

But language is much more than mere words. Obviously the black board example is petty and ridiculous, but over the past decades, words which are loaded and have a unsavoury history have been stamped on mainly by the political correctness movement (if I can call it that). So I'd say that sensible political correctness can be a good thing.
