You can play unto four (I am not lying, this has been officially announced), I said four players on your GBA (Makes the PS2 look primitive, pathetic two player).
But better than that is the fact that games like Mario Kart Advance support Spawning. Meaning you can play four players with only one game cartage. This does not work on all the tracks on the game but just imagine how much easier it would be to organise tournaments.

How much is the Gameboy Advance due to retail at?
You CAN actually do that though, with the Gameboy Advance.
Two games needed I believe, except Microsoft products which need two copies of the game, permission from the Pope and a multi-user licence agreement at just £99.99.
