If i want to link 2 pcs together in my house all i need is 2 network cards ( about 8 quid each) and some wire-i dont need owt else,Rite

If you use a switch, two network cards and patch cable you can get a network twice as nice.

Else just some crossover will do.

Quite correct. If you are just going to link the two PCs together and don't ever plan to upgrade, then you need a crossover cable. If you plan to add more PCs to the house network, then you are better off buying two straight-through network cables and a hub. This way is more expensive, but more flexible. You pays your money, you makes your choice.
