After installing my RAM I noticed some loud static from the speakers when I tried to play any videos. I don't think my computer liked it when I unplugged everything (connected through USB) to get at the RAM and wanted to start reinstalling things that were already installed. I didn't touch the soundcard but I did have to take out the graphics card to get at the RAM slots.

Watching flash videos is fine, no problem there. I can also get video sometimes without static if I'm lucky or open the video by doing right click and selecting a different player. Though that doesn't seem to work at the moment.

My soundcard is a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2

I've checked the Creative Diagnostic and ran some tests and that all seems fine. I've tried resetting the default settings but nothing changed. I've checked that the cable is properly connected and in the correct hole.

So any suggestions? It does seem odd that it's just videos that are affected and not flash movies (youtube/iplayer). Oh hangon let me check my mp3s. Yeah that works fine without any static. This is annoying and I was planning to watch Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad and King of the Hill too. :(

If you remove the new ram and put the old back, is the noise still there?

I figured out a way around it. While watching a video, instead of stero I switched it to left channel and now the static has stopped.

Better than nothing I suppose but would like to have it return to normal.

Oh dear still not working :( I right clicked (selected VLC player) to open the Simpsons and that worked with no static but when I double clicked to open Family Guy (default player also VLC) I got static again.

I put the sound card further away and put my ethernet card between them. And I unplugged and put back in the graphics card and left out the usb stuff (webcam, microphone).

All I remember doing was taking the dust off the graphics card fan and the microphone trying to reinstall itself when I first experienced these problems.

I checked all the settings and everything is set correctly, you know soundblaster for sound, thingybob for microphone etc.

Just seems really odd that it's playing up like this :s

Thanks a bunch Eccles, I'll give it a try in a minute.

Yeah they're both seated next to each other so I'll move them apart as well as make sure they're properly fitted. :)

I'll give it a try now.

Try removing the graphics card again and refitting. Make sure it is fully seated in it's motherboard slot. Check the monitor cable is connected firmly. I suspect the reason the it's effecting videos is the the graphics card is providing some video decoding acceleration, which isn't required for flash or playing MP3s. If the graphics card isn't quite seated correctly this can cause electrical noise which your sound card, being next to or near to the graphics card, is picking up.
Other than that you can try moving the sound card to a slot furthest away from the graphics card (if you have one) or simply try plugging all your USB devices into different ports from what they are in now.
