How many people born in the UK do you think could pass a citizenship test? Looking around these very forums you've got to question the ability of some to even pass a basic language test.

Every country in history that has opened it's doors to immigration has benefited greatly. The World's most expensive real estate, found in Manhattan, wouldn't exist if the US hadn't opened it's doors to Itallian immigrants who built the iconic sky scrapers that form the famous skyline. Considering the island is filled with big business that have a disproportionate number of Jewish CEOs, if they hadn't welecomed the victims of the Holocaust there may not have even been a need for these facilities as the US would still be languishing.

The "debate" about immigration held in our nation's media is disgusting. The levels of ignorance and racism shown make me ashamed to be from this country. We pay far more to the lazy British people on Jod Seekers who refuse to accept the low paid jobs that many immigrats find themselves. People talk about a hospital crisis, but if we took away the foreigner cleaners and porters (positions that can't be filled with UK nationals) the system would grind to a hault.

This "problem" is blown so far out of proportion is it unreal. The general argument comes down to cost and there are far less worthy causes getting far more money every year - be the smokers with self-inflicted problems needing NHS care or drunken louts and closing time cause damage to themselves and property. These cost the public far more... oh, but they're socially acceptable. Being a person in need with no home and no future in their native country apparently doesn't. The British Isles used brute stole from the World in it's Empire days - be it in minerals, man power or land. As a direct result of this we should count ourselves very lucky to be born in a country where everybody can be provided for, day-to-day things like education, health-care, housing, food and democracy maybe the norm to us, but they are luxuries elsewhere.

a dodgy subject I must admit. I believe ALL immigrants should have to pass a citizenship test if they intend to stay for more than a year or two covering languages, history etc. not just here but in any country. aside from that, lets be honest, if you got statistics on unemployment, immigrants would not be top of the list.......

I think that they should never be allowed to be in our country. They are getting more money than I do, and are also getting free food.

The Government should spend money on somthing better, like hospitals or something.

We were all imigrants once, in the 1920s America let in millions a year. Allow them in I say. If they are running away from either poverty, dictatorship and things like that. If they are here for our health service then they shouldnt be allowed in.
