Like Nintendo with the N64 and Microsoft with the Xbox before them, Sony have issued a voluntary recall of certain AC adapters.
It's the black slimline PlayStation 2 which is affected, and more specifically models SCPH70002, 70003 and 70004 manufactured between August and December 2004. To work out if yours is affected, visit www.ps2ac.com and follow the terribly simple instructions.
Obviously the situation's not as bad as our hilariously sensationalist headline, but it could melt or something. Those with affected units are advised to unplug and not use it until a replacement is obtained, I advice you to check this website before your ps2 slimline burns or explodes.
They had to replace new ac adaptors for n64 and xbox, but thankfully our PlayStation 2s are far too old for this.
