A couple of quotes from the same interview with the Chelsea defender:-

Melchiot: "Arsenal can't be caught"

As it stands, Arsenal are a mere 5 points ahead of second placed Manchester United. This gives them literally speaking less than 2 games breathing room.

Melchiot: "We can catch Man Utd"

As it stands, Utd are 6 points ahead of Chelsea. Now, riddle me this, Melchiot. If Man Utd can't gain 5 points on Arsenal, how can Chelsea catch 6 on Man Utd?

If gaining 5 isn't possible, how is gaining 6?

I despise anyone with the gall to declare any team the Champions when we are barely more than half way through the season. Especially when they're also saying that they can go on to finish above the team they just lost against.

Buffoon.

Maybe he meant THEY can't catch Arsenal, but can catch Man U. That'd make sense.

A five point lead is never unassailalbe, no matter who has it. Melchiot is a muppet. To say a team like Everton or Spurs would find it impossible to gain five points on Arsenal he could *perhaps* get away with, but Man Utd? A bit presumptious.

As for Chelsea closing the six point gap on United, that's absolutely out of the question ;)

It's sour grapes, isn't it?

Sulking over being beaten by the better team.

By the way, how many people wrote Newcastle off after half a dozen games, when they were close to the bottom?

There's still plenty of points to play for, 45 or so, I believe...

So, Arsenal, who have already slipped up more this season than they did all of last, aren't likely to again. Meanwhile Man Utd will throw their position away for no good reason other than that Chelsea want them to.

Melchiot is either a fool or a clairvoyant. I favour the former.

I somehow don't think he meant arsenal can't be caught up in the mathematical sense, i think perhaps, using common sense, that he meant the way they are playing they can't be caught as they wont droip very many points. However Man utd will slip up, he is saying.

That is actually quite a great answer, and deserves merit.

(You see, I was going to say it, but didn't know how to.)

Blackburn beat Arsenal, that doesn't mean arsenal can't finish higher than blackburn in the league.
