Sir Bobby Robson has confirmed that Newcastle have launched a double bid to take Jonathan Woodgate and Kleberson to St James' Park.

Newcastle have contacted Leeds United and Brazilian side Atletico Paranaense to make initial inquiries over the two players.

Both have been the subject of intense speculation in recent days.

Robson said: "All I can confirm to you now is that the club have actually made communication to both clubs in respect of the two players concerned.

"There's a lot of communication and dialogue will have to go on before anything happens in that respect, but all we've done is made preliminary investigations into those two players.

"It's as simple as that and I can say no more than that."

Kleberson's club wanted quite a price for him:

"They came here with a few million US dollars and expected to be able to buy any player in the club".

Obviously, Kleberson is worthy more than "a few million dollars"

How few, though, was not mentioned.

Apparently, Terry Venables has said he will do everything he can to stop Woodgate from leaving to help his team's fight for survival, and better status in the Premiership this season.

And haven't Newcastle go enough midfielders already??
Kieron Dyer, Jermaine Jenas, Nolberto Solano... Who needs Kleberson?!

Woodgate would be a good buy though, as Dabizas needs better cover, and Titus Bramble hasn't really impressed his fans too-much since he signed from Ipswich.
