The developers decided that the available graphics of the time could not do justice to the story being told, so you just had to read as you went along, typing in commands such as "GO WEST", "THROW SWORD" or "EXAMINE CHEST".
They were quite limited in their vocabulary, so you had to keep typing different words until you found some that it would understand.
Some of the ones I remember best on the Acorn Electron were Dodgy Geezers, Castle Frankenstein, and Sphinx Adventure!
