Is it just a coincidence that Sony now have PS2 consoles on the shelves for all to buy or is it down to good marketing?? I was able to pick up a PS2 on Saturday when passing HMV, there was a sign saying PS2's are in stock and ready to buy. I then passed Virgin Megastore and again, PS2's were available. I've now heard Dixons have loads in stock as well. It just shows that the waiting time of spring 2001 was misleading, they are available and don't seem to be selling out too quickly.
It was good to see some stores offering Dream Casts with multi region DVD players included for £299, the band wagons were being jumped upon!
People I know looked all over the place for PSones, and couldn't find them... So perhaps it was most of the UK.
Sony probably gave a "next batch" date of Spring 2001 so that they had a comfy 'buffer-zone' in case of any more problems.
Alternatively they may just have said that so that they look good now! Either way, it's good news for consumers.
One thing that did interest me over Xmas - at least locally here in Northampton - was that there were plenty of Dreamcast's (as expected - Sega wanted to capitalise on the shortages of PS2's) but the PSone had sold out!
Could it be that the market was misjudged? Where we all thought that the lack of PS2's would benefit Sega's DC sales, did the punters opt for a cheap-n-cheerful PSone to tide them over instead?
