Well, the pre-production of the movie has started, and ended!

It seems that the movie pre-production process was costing so much that they've had to move to Canada, favorite of TV series and more and more film these days.

As for casting, it looks like they have (thankfully) gone with the idea of someone less well known than their first choice of Keanu Reeves to play the man of steel. Current favorites are Ashton Kutcher - from Just Married, Kip Pardue - (Remember the Titans) or Barry Watson - Star of WBTV's 7th Heaven.

Looks like Warner are keen on 'one of their own' getting the part. Meanwhile, Anthony Hopkins has said on air (on Howerd Stern's radio show) that he was offered the part as Superman's dad, last played by Marlon Brando for all of 5 minutes. This has been apparently tentitively accepted.

Now all they need is to change their minds about casting Keanu as John Constantine in that upcoming movie and I can breathe a sigh of relief. After all, his last English role was in Dracula and I'm still shivering from thinking about his accent in that!

Watch An Eveing With Kevin Smith for his Superman scripting experiences, very funny. Haven't bothered reading it all myself, but you can find the script here...

That's obviously not the version that's being used though.

I've read some really wild ideas on the story though.

Apparently an early script had many survivors from Krypton, all coming after Superman, with the same super powers.

Which just doesn't sound right.

I think that idea may have been scrapped though. Hopefully.

That would make Superman Welsh, and not from Krypton as most of us suspected. However, it would of course clear up the reason why Superman always wears his knickers on the outside.

"Is it a bird?"
"Is it a plane?"
"Nooo, it's Superman boyo. Yacky da." etc.
