The Daily Mail has proved, yet again, today that it is a reactionary tabloid that exists purely to outrage the public and to try and generate general hysteria and moral indignity from middle-class Tories that have little to no contact with the real world.

This time they're not blaming immigrants for everything, trying to tell you Saddam Hussein is Hitler 2 or that Ricin will be shoved down your throat as you sleep by exiled-Iraqi immigrants.

They've written a massive diatribe against an ad in Vogue for Gucci that *gasp* shows the odd pube. They scream about how Tom Ford was also responsible for the YSL ad with Sophie Dahl that was "demeaning to women". And about 18-20 pages into the same issue, what can you see?
"Guess the naked female celebrity". Including? Thaaaat's right folks, the "demeaning" YSL ad.
Morons.

And to put a cherry on the indignation cake? Lynda-Lee Potter ranting about Pete Townsend and how he must be guilty, whatever the circumstances he offers for looking at child porn. She then goes on and mentions how disgusting some of the images are. And she knows this how?
From when she used the internet to visit child-porn sites for research she was doing for the NSPCC.

*shakes head*
Does anyone actually regard this "paper" as serious news reporting?

I blame immigrants/homosexuals/Pete Townsend/immigrants/Chris Morris

Wonder whatever happened to that old saying innocent until proven guilty? To my knowledge he hasn't been on trial yet so he's still innocent of whatever accusations have been made against him. Personally i feel it was irresponsible to reveal who it was without actually waiting until he was proved innocent or guilty. It sells papers i guess as the easily outraged brigade jump onto it quicker than a politcian does a bandwagon.

The Daily Mail is the only morally acceptable target of a tactical nuke.

Agree 100% with you.
Which is why it boils my blood to see people shouting and getting red-faced about this.
It's one of the main problems with this obsessed with celeb-culture we live in - someone says something and BAM, it's become gospel.
This stuff is just fodder for hack-sheets like The Daily Mail, they'll move on in 3 days without actually stopping to think of the damage they may cause or the idiots left in it's wake.

Anyone here remember John Leslie? He was hung, drawn and quartered in the press. Anyone can tell me what charges were brought against him? Nobody stopped to think that the timing of Johnson's rape allegations were strangely linked to her new book being released at that exact moment?

What of the other 7,000 people who's names have been handed over? Is it any coincidence that Townsend happens to be a major celebrity and one of the first to be questioned? Not arrested, but questioned?
Nope, people dont stop to calmly think about this.
They see the word "peado" and go mental, there's no reasoning left because it's such a trigger topic.
He may be guilty, he may not. But at this point, however many column inches you devote to it? You don't know.
Only Townsend knows and he's speaking to police without any qualms or delay.
Yet we see pics of Townsend with Glitter in the tabloids, stories about "Uncle Ernie" from Tommy and blah blah blah.
What galls me is that most of the people saying "Oh well he obviously wrote a pro-abuse song" hadn't even heard of Tommy until The Daily Mail started rattling it's 12th century moral-sabre.

Grow up, stop thinking everything you ever need to know is from a newspaper and have the strength to think for yourself instead of being spoonfed your world-views from hypocritical, mindless, propaganda, groupthink hack journos.

(*you* is a non-specific term for the population)

And Richard Littlejohn should be shot in the face. Racist, homophobic illiterate chimpanzee masquerading as social commentator.

I try not to read a paper: It's basically 'England' trying to angry up the blood about things which aren't worth angrying up the blood for.

Nothing was brought against him was there? even though suddenly about 20 women 'had the courage' to speak out and say they were raped by him also. Nothing has been mentioned since that outcry and everyone seems to have forgotten about it. It sold a fortnights worth of papers, it did it's job, it ruined Leslie's career in the process but ah well who cares as long as they got their sales figures eh? No morals at all and that was another case of name him before he had actually been charged of anything.

Still hasn't been charged with anything.
Yet his career is finished.

*claps slowly*

And wasn't it John Entwhistle who wrote the "Fiddle Around" song from Tommy anyway? I seem to recall being told by a friend (who was very drunk so this is by no means gospel) that Townsend couldn't write a song on the subject as it disgusted him so much.

I swear...I try to keep up with the Daily Mail so that I know what form of drivel they're spouting, but I can only read it in 2 page bursts as my bladder is not designed to hold liquid that has reached boiling point.

I haven't seen Chris Morris on TV for a while, wouldn't it be great if he was setting up his own newspaper? :D
