I was in the pub a few days ago, one of my friends was playing a fruit machine.

Normally I wouldn't pay much attention, but it was a slow day and I was bored, so I watched for a couple of minutes and asked for an explaination of what was going on.

As it turns out, he, like me, didn't actually really know what was going on. Except you could sometimes hold or move stuff, and 3 of a kind is good.

Now, I put my own ignorance down to having never cared, after all, it just takes up money I could be putting on the pool table, and with winner stays on 50p can last me quite a while, if I say so myself.
But I figured the knowledge of what was going on must be passed down by word of speach-slurred mouth, so I thought I'd ask a few more people.

Turns out nobody else seems to know any better either. Even my friend who works in a pub, watches all day to see when he thinks it might pay out soon, even he seems pretty fuzzy on what's going on.
Yet despite the multiple admissions of hazy knowledge, so many people seem willing to pour cash into the greedy box of flashing lights and spinning pictures.
I could maybe understand it if they were drunk, but they'll as happily walk in sober and wizz away their money like they'll be wizzing away their beer in a few hours. (Ducking and diving past the language filter there :^) )

So I'm throwing the question out to you guys, does anyone actually know, to any degree of acuracy, what's going on with the fruit machine at their local?
If so, I salute you, but I'm growing increasingly skeptical.

Maybe these people just aren't so different from the guy who picks the longest songs from the jukebox, instead of the ones he likes...

I used to play fruit machines quite alot. Most of them are pretty straight forward.

You get three symbols (not fruits) in a line, and you get onto a board that you go round to collect stuff like Features, Money, Nudges or KNockouts.

Or you get three fruits in a row, and have yo gamble higher or lower to get up to enough to exchange onto the board.

At any point you can collect what you've got so far, and walk away with it.

I have a few friends who play them.
One tends to go overboard and win sometimes and put all he wins and more back in. THink he has finally given up with winning the odd bit of cash but spending a lot on them while he is at it.

My other friend is actually good at most, wins a lot of the times. Won about £600 one night(spent about £45 to win it) just by going from a few places that have the large jackpot machines.

Probably play on these machines maybe once or twice a year and only then put about £2 through each time, always in a group with someone who says he knows what he's doing.....me, I ain't got the faintest idea what's going on!

Some people seem to have the knack of getting a good win, others just stay there pouring money (like pints) down it's throat! If people do win say the jackpot and actually walk away up and cash the money in, then fair play to them....it's the people who win the jackpot and then proceed to put the whole lot back in and plus more out of their pockets that I pity!

First of all, I don't "do" these machines.

BUT, I hear that the rollers (those 3 things with the fruit what spin round), if you get eye-level with them, and look up to the right, you can see the Pounds stacked up; the more there are, the more likely of a pay out.
