While we may be obsessed with solving off-the-field matters that are concerning Football today, there's still one thing that seems to just pass-us-by that appears to be on the increase as a problem that could seriously affect the playing-side that we all love of our beautifull game.
Forget about the money for a minute, forget about Rangers and Celtic and the possibillities of a European Super League, and clear your head of all-thoughts regarding the Transfer Window system, it's the Cheaters of today's game that are really causing concern for me when I watch a `big` live match on TV.

It's been going on for quite some time now; players bending and breaking the rules to give their teams the unfair advantage, yet it seems to me that the problem is increasing as more-and-more highly-payed footballers appear to be destroying the whole idea of `Fair Play` just for 3 measly points, or to save them from defeat, both of which could be easily earnt in any-other game, on another day.
Most-notabley this season, Ruud van Nistelrooy - Man United's £19m Dutch international who can't-stop-scoring - has emerged as perhaps the biggest "law-breaker" this season with the increasing number of penalty kicks he has won unfairly (and scored from!) for making a meal out of almost-nothing. Whenever United have been down, creating chances but having no-luck infront of goal, all "Van the Man" has needed is a slight knock on the shoulder to go tumbling-down to convince the referee and his officials to go-ahead and point to the spot.
And more recently only last-week we saw Arsenal's under-achieving former-Everton striker Francis Jeffers take-a-tumble after the bare-minimal of contact from John-Aarne Riise and he surged-on towards-goal. He knew his side needed another goal to help see-off Liverpool in an enticing battle at Highbury, but unfortunately, in my book, he chose the wrong way to go about it! What's even-worse is that John-Aarne Riise got booked for it, and the video replays clearly-showed us that Jeffers was a good second-or-two late in hitting the deck. And then there was Sol Campbell's foul at the other-end which clearly gave Liverpool a deserved spot-kick, yet the England centre-back got nothing from the below-par referee, not even a whisper!

These players (and many others -- especially foreigners...) know their teams don't deserve the chance to score on a one-on-one situation 12-yards from the 'keeper when they go-down too-easily like that, we know that, and even the TV cameras and video replays show that to everyone and anyone who might happen to be watching a certain one of these games... Yet nothing seems to be done about it!
If the Football Association can discipline a player for off-the-ball incidents, fouls, and other acts of conduct that break-the-rules, then surely they should be doing something to the Ruud van Nistelrooy's and David Ginola's of this world when the evidence is clearly there that they have "done wrong", right infront of their noses??

Even if it's just a simple fine of several thousands-of-pounds, or perhaps even a one-match-ban, or something similar along-those-lines, something needs to be done to put these cheats who are destroying our beautiful game, to rest, so that they will cheat no-more, and therefore have no illegal influence on the players of tommorow; the Wayne Rooney's and James Milner's of the future who may one-day decide that it is "OK" to dive and unfairly give your side a penalty-kick, just because the likes of van Nistelrooy (and even Wiltord last-night, who thankfully DIDN'T succeed) who they have looked-up-to and admired during their progression through the ranks are setting a bad-standard for the future-generations of youngsters wanting to live-out their dreams of playing at Old Trafford, and the future Wembley Stadium.
No club is ever going to fine its own player for breaking-the-rules after it's helped them through to the next-round, so it is up to the FA, or perhaps even FIFA, to do something about it and to show us all how wrong it really is.

Imagine what Footbal could be like 10-years-from-now if something isn't done about this now... While the David Beckham's, Ryan Gigg's, and Robert Pires' of tommorow's world are creating chance-after-chance, the Ruud van Nistelrooy's and David Ginola's of the future are falling at every-last-chance under minimal contact and earning themselves some dirty silverware that should've gone straight to the other-team when that full-time whistle blew after 90-minutes!
Each team would be lucky to have even 10-points-a-season earnt in the Fair Play Leagues with the way things are going!

Now do you see how a real problem could develop through the generations here, unless of course, something is done about it now?

I've told you before that too-many-foreigners would have a bad-effect on the beautiful game in the future, but would you listen??!
