I've just been playing the superb sega rally on the saturn - Yeah! I can't believe how much better this version is than the sequel on the Dreamcast! I know I don't appreciate sequels, but Sega usually make decent enough sequels, so I was really kind of surprised by the poorness of SR2 in comparison.
OK, so the graphics look dated now, but Sega rally would still pass as a decent Playstation title. For it's day SR was the best arcade racer, and one of the best console games ad I guess I still think it's superb because of the 'gameplay':
The game has more pop-up than a children's book, but the speed? The handling? The music? I'd go so far as to say the game is the best 32 bit racing game ever!
OK, so there's only 2 cars, and 3 if you press XYZYX at the menu screen, but I don't care! The game is a timeless classic, and will probably be remembered for longer than that other one - Colin Mc..something....
Get a Saturn just for this game, it'll only cost you £20 at most! I remember paying £44.50 for SR from SR back in 1996! You can get it for about £2 now - how's that for depreciation!
It came close, but McRae had the fun training bit at the beginning, better graphics, better handling, better sound, better manual, and better playability. So the PSX game just edged it my a couple of miles.
:-)
