Hi All

I just got a new sparkle gf4 mx440 for christmas and have installed it and got it working in win xp but when i boot into win 98se the system runs for about a minute and a half once it has got to the desktop then freezes. yet it runs perfectly in win xp pro

AMD Athlon XP 1700+
512Mb pc133
GeForce 4 MX440
PC-Chips M810L(M)R

i origanally thought that it was because the drivers for the old onboard sis 630//730 graphics had installed a propriaty agp bus driver (which they had on xp) but they dont appear to have done so on 98

Just in case this is any help before i got win xp working properly it used to blue screen and say that the driver NV4_DISP.dll have got stuck in an infinite loop and this had caused the system to lock.. but 98 brings up nothing it just sits there until i reboot.

i was wondering if any1 had any ideas about a solution as i cannot run many oldish games such as colin mccray rally as it crashes under winxp

You can run games in XP under a compatability mode. If you create a shortcut to the game (like the one in the start menu or your desktop), right-click on it and select properties. In the third tab, as I remember, you can enable compatability on it. Select Win98 and it should run OK.

load up windows 98 in safe mode, remove all display cards (even the geforce 4mx) reboot in win98 (normal mode) and re-install geforce card, also install via 4-in-1 pack (if mb is via) make sure in system properties that nothing has an exclaimation mark and if there still is a problem then it could be any number of things. Did you touch or nudge anything while fitting your gfx card? Did you reconfigure your bios?
