I have bought the new WWE Smackdown for my PS2 and Im pleased on the whole with the game however on the previous game (Just Bring It) I could and counter easily, with this one I am struggling big time I know you have to press the d pad as well as the square button however this only appears to work occasionally, can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong?

Also if you are going to have a Smackdown move put on you, in the previous game you just quickly press your Smackdown move if you had one and counter it, this does not seem to work either is there something I am not doing right when trying to counter a Smackdown?

For countering normal moves, you need to press square and a directional button (the same directional button they are using at the same time eg: the opponent uses O and left, You have to use square and left at the same time, Opponent uses X, you have to press square and X at the same time.)

And as for reversing finishers, This time you have to press square and a directional button instead of L1, Sometimes you can turn their moves into your finisher, eg: When Kurt, if the opponent uses a kick to the stomack, down, left and X at same time for most wrestlers, You can turn it into an anklelock by pressing Square and L1. Same goes for Benoit, he can turn a clothesline in to a crippler crossface.

It doesn't work all the time and you have to get the timming pretty well spot on. You'll get the hang of it soon.

Yeah you have to press your smackdown move to counter it, not sure if it uses one or two of your smackdown moves though. Again it is the timming you have to get right.

Another cool thing is if you have 2 smackdown icons if you press L1 and L2 together you can perform your oponents move (as long as they are in the right position for your oponents move)
