Okay, so I have a PS2, it's a Japanese import one - couldn't wait for the UK release (and anyway, the UK auctions cost too much)... now I want to buy some Japanese Import Games online... does anybody have any hints as to where I can get them... there is a shop in Kingston-Upon-Thames that sells them (I have three), but the choice is limited... and I want GT3 as soon as possible.

You made a good choice buying a japanese playstation 2 actually, as it plays english dvd's (early ones play all region dvds). Additionally, this machine can play backups from all regions and can have a mod-chip fitted NOW. The American and European versions do not have a mod-chip, so you are stuck buying the games at silly prices. (especially given the apalling quality of playstation 2 software thus far...and the bouncer is a major let-down too). If by some stroke odf awful fate the machine goes wrong, then you'll have saved many times the machine's value in games you've acquired and can just chuck it in a skip and buy another. I don't think that the lack of a harddisk or netwrk connection will be a great loss either. The UK phone system is not up to it and won't be for at least a year or more by which time, the system could very well be fighting for its life.

I live in Kingston-Upon-Thames where I've managed to pick a few games up for £32 plus some small change.
Yes, my Japanese isn't that good, but have picked up Shin Sangoku Musou and worked out what it all basically means in a day (so not bad going on my part), even finished the first level there.
Ridge Racer V uses English Commentary and Tekken Tag Tournament speaks for itself, moves along very nicely too :)
As an aside... I should have a UK spec PS2 in a couple of days... it's arriving by post :) Will be able to check them both out side by side, and see how much difference there is between them.

well done for picking up a import PS2 but did you consider the following
1)all games will be in japanese thus making them un enjoyable ( i dont know how well you speak japanese)
2)import games are 60 jipper as opposed to 40 in the uk
3)you can only watch japanese DVDs( and region 0 of course)
4)the internals of your PS2 are configured for japanese broadband and the UK BB & HDD add on are configured to be housed internally
5)i would imagine if the thing went wrong you would have grief getting it fixed
