Wow! What a difference it makes though. The most gratifying thing about it, is that the results are nearly instantaneous. You remove your old card from the AGP slot, plug in the new, install the software that comes with the Voodoo 4, configure your brightness and colour settings, click submit, and you are up and running.
The first thing you notice is all your normal screens are significantly more visible, even when not playing games or surfing the net. The software includes 'True Color' applications, which means when you are shopping on the web, the color of jacket you see is the color of jacket you will get. So mum likes this card too.
Now for the good stuff, GAMES! I'd had Unreal Tournament installed before the card and played it, suffering the odd jerky moment, the odd glitch. After the Voodoo 4? No problems. The game plays a lot faster (due to the 32mb memory installed on the card) and NO glitches, meaning I don't get killed so much anymore. This is a 'good thing'.
The creme de la creme, though, is Deus Ex. It's so much smoother, faster, and more fun due to the Voodoo 4. As this card is only a few £'s more than the Voodoo 3, but a great improvement from what I've heard from the Voodoo 1 and 2, I'd say get it.
If you're a complete computer nut and have £400 or so to spare, then perhaps the Voodoo 5 would be more your cup of tea, but for the average gamer, I'd have no hesitation in saying that the Voodoo 4 is one of the best upgrades you can get for your PC. It works well with 64mb of RAM, but for best results, while you are getting the Voodoo 4, make sure you upgrade to 128mb of RAM at the same time. The pleasure you will get from gaming will more than make up for the few extra pounds you invest.
Voodoo 4: Highly Recommended.
