The FA has charged Martin Keown with improper conduct following his clash with Ruud van Nistelrooy in Arsenal's 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford.
The former England defender appeared to swing an arm in the direction of the Manchester United ace in an off-the-ball incident during the game on 7 December.
Keown escaped punishment from referee Dermot Gallagher but after reviewing video evidence, the governing body has charged the 36-year-old with improper conduct - a breach of Rule E1.
Keown has 14 days to respond but is expected to be hit with a three-match ban and a hefty fine.
Keown becomes the fifth Arsenal player to have incidents reviewed by the FA this season, following incidents involving Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Ashley Cole and Dennis Bergkamp.

But it really is too-late to do something about that van Nistelrooy incident from last-year, even if something should've been done.

You can't start moaning about things like this - it will happen we all know that the FA are inconsistant and there will be a time when you own player will get away with things like this; for example Bergkamp recently was found guilty of stamping and what did he get? - a £5000 fine, pocket money for a footballer and no ban - sound fair? many players have rceived bans for this type of challenge.

I think you'll find Keown initially pushed him and then swung his arm/hand out towards Ruud's face, almost like a punch.
He deserves to be charged, like any other player in a similar situation.

You cannot raise your hands on another football player in a game we all know that and a lot of the time you will get punished - The only problem is that the FA aren't always consistant with this rule. However, Keown raised his hands on another player and deserves to be punished.
