Yes! The new Catholic Church entertainment show, hosted by Sir Cliff Richard, is coming to TV. Watch as priests and cardinals compete in fierce competition to become Pope Idol 2003.
As John Paul II presides over the ceremony, many clergy members will be battling to take his crown and become head of the Catholic church. Here are some of the nominees you will meet during the competition:
Cardinal Jacob
------------------
Hailing from Germany, Jacob likes evening prayer and golf, but watch out for his mean rosary bead swinging, it could swing the competition for him…
Father Fredrick
-------------------
This Wiley priest comes from Dublin and is a mean Guinness drinker to boot. He likes kneeling and is the fastest at the sign of the cross, but has he got what it takes to cross the other contestants?
Bishop Thackery
---------------------
The Bish, as he likes to be known, is a cool customer who will give the others a run for their money. Able to recite whole sections of the Bible in seconds, he makes a mean foe for anyone trying his knowledge test. Thackery is also a keen gardener and likes nothing better than to recite his sermons to the roses.
Deacon Gates
-----------------
Gates is the youngest of the Pope Idol contestants, but what he lacks in experience he makes up for in enthusiasm. Having completed the St Bernadette prayer marathon in record time, Deacon Gates went straight on to Lourdes, where he performed a row of blessings before the startled crowd.
So, with the judges presiding over the contest and watching their every holy move, will any of these Papal wannabes get to the top and become Pope Idol 2003? Tune in to see the contest now (and don’t forget to buy the official Pope Idol rosary beads with your choice of contestant printed on the front). Take a front pew soon and watch as your viewing prayers are answered…

No, it's rare, but the pope could abdicate.
Anyway, my pastiche of how the Church is using the media these days doesn't seem to have gone down too well. Oh well.
Stop being an idiot...
