I mean come on, what really is the point ?

We do topics, reply, and unlike the games-related forums I don't think people in here are trying desperately to win GAD, sure it's nice, but not the objective of posting a topic.

But why ? People try to do even handed topics, but none of us really want to change our ideas or assumptions on most things, certainly we aren't going to change our minds based on a topic posted on a forum. Some topics make us think, but they disolve all to often into nitpicking and fault finding. Heck, I've done it plenty of times, and so have others. But I doubt anyone reads these long winded, and ultimately, pointless replies. We type, and type, and all too often throw in an insult, and expect those who oppose our views to collapse beneath the logic of our own arguments.

It isn't going to happen - clearly it isn't. So why ? What do we hope to achieve ? I really don't know.

Many of us here have strong views on various issues, often opposing each others, and this means that all but topics like Goatboy's Male Manifesto, and the various Santa ones, Arwen's sex one, disappear under us throwing replies back at each other. We personalise discussions, and they become arguments. Yep, I've done it often, as have others. Life isn't just about male/female, sex, and intangible things, it's about events, people, history, the future...

We seek a high ground, something that makes out position unassailable, and we stick to it, no matter what. What maybe dooms many a topic is what dooms events in the real world - an inability to back down from a point.

What I'm trying to say - in typically long winded fashion - is I don't, for some reason, see the point in putting any effort into making topics in life anymore, or even any other forum. I can't be bothered, and I'm almost certainly spending too much time on the internet than I should. I've looked at some things about me, and my life, and decided a change is needed.

So I'm going to stop posting, anything, for while, and get back to doing what I used to before I became near hooked on this internet. Wargaming, music, games, painting, writing, and other stuff.

No doubt Light will cackle, along with others, like the Witches from Macbeth, and hold this as a victory for them, and I couldn't care less really, go ahead guys, knock yourselves out, whatever brightens your day and all that.

And, seeing as no one really cracked it - or cared :) - Belldandy is the name of an anime character from the Oh My Goddess anime series, and she was always my favourite character because of how she was, and acted, as well as being the name of a god from Norse mythology.

Merry Christmas to you all :)

Forums are just invisible walls to scrawl graffiti on.

What is the point?

Why post on a chat forum?

Why set your alarm to get out of bed in the morning?

Why eat food?

Why sleep?

Why live?

We do because it is what we have to do, not because there is a purpose to it.

Wargaming? WTF? Isn't that for fat, smelly, mullet-headed GEEKS? :-)

It's interesting to see what other's views are, don't you think? From time to time I see a really avid Christian (not on these forums - elsewhere, real life, or wherever) who totally believes every single word of the Bible, and takes it - literally - as Gospel. At first I think "Woah, that's wack", in a slightly less rappish tone, but then it gives me a feeling of awe; that someone can have such belief and complete faith in something they have utterly no proof in really baffles me. And in a way, I respect them, even though I would never want their views in a million years. I'm not sure exactly why....I think it's things like that that make the life forum nice.

A reason I have for using the internet above, say, meeting people in real life, is that I generally hate people in real life. Some people are okay at first, but when you get to know them they are usually crappy individuals, just like the next. That doesn't tend to come out as often over the internet - I'm friendly with most people on these forums, but I know for a fact that if I met them in real life I would hate 99% of them. But I still like them at the moment.

I think the Life forum is perhaps the best one here.
For the simple fact that you *do* get threads of people arguing with each other.
Ok, so when it degenerates into dull name-calling then I tune out, but even if it's just A and B discussing ideas then maybe one of them might see it from a different view?

Ultimately there's no point, but then what's the point of being on this planet anyway? The gathering of knowledge, exhange of views and the chance to interact with other people on a level that stimulates.
I rarely get involved with political discussions or religious ones for the simple fact that people have ideas and rarely are willing to concede that they may not be correct. Be that yourself Bell, me, Light or any other number of people.

I'll discuss quite happily, but when it's just two people prodding each other in the chest saying "No, YOU'RE wrong" "No, YOU are" then that's boring.
However, I've discussed faith and belief with Flanders on an excellent level. I don't agree with his views and he doesn't with mine, but we're both willing to sit and extend the courtesy of listening and trying to view it from opposing sides.

I'll discuss until the cows come home.
I won't argue because at the end of the day, arguing on an internet forum is a silly thing.
But fun

It's a type of human interaction. Why do anything, what's the point? You can't actually ask questions like that.
