Have a slight, bewildering problem with a pdf file. Building a site which contains 3 pdf files for user download. Two of these files open on request when the link is activated. The third, refuses and the follow error message is displayed:

"Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded".

Ok, the question is - why can the other two respond quite happily and this third one is not allowed. It does make testing the site quite tedious. Which 'security settings' is the error message implying? All this is taking place on the local machine. Each pdf file opens quite happily when clicked indiviually.

Any ideas?

Hi Dragonlance,
Glad you got things sorted.
By resetting your IE security settings you would have changed things back to their defaults - so even though it didn't seem as if you changed anything, you could have reset a setting you weren't aware of.

Anyway - if the problem should return, just post a link and I'm happy to take a look for you :¬)

Thanks, Hmmm - your help is much appreciated. All of your suggestions are sound and exactly as I was pondering. The 3rd pdf was named in exactly the same way as the other two! Checked all IE Internet security settings and as should be!

However, problem is now sorted - how I don't know, but here is a brief synopsis:

Reset IE settings to exactly the same as they were!

Downloaded pdf file again and renamed it as it was before!

Lo and behold - all work fine! Which fix 'worked' - who knows?

Thanks for assistance. Would have linked to 'site' or sent code, but client got a few problems at minute and asked for site to be removed while 'things' got sorted! Who knows, I'm only the 'monkey' :-)

Hi,
That sounds as though you may have named the 3rd PDF slightly differently to the others - can you post a link to the page in question or cut/past the code?

"Which 'security settings' is the error message implying?"
It sounds like this is in IE - go to Internet Options and click the security tab - it is these settings along with some in the advanced tab that control this.
