I have had a copy of XP at home now for about a year. On my home version whenever I plug any new USB hardware into the pc, it will download the driver automatically off the web through the new hardware wizard, and i dont even have to put the manufacturers driver cd in, which rocks.

My PC at work that now has XP, does not do this. It doesn't even ask for the option to look for the driver on the web at all, which is very annoying. It kinda gives me the option of put in the manufacturers cd or else... Please help. Its killing me!

To be honest, I would not trust any such feature as far as I could throw it. I have never seen it do anything like that with USB devices, although I've never investigated any "download latest drivers off net" option either.

Are you on a Network at work?? Chances are that feature has been dissabled.

It's how things were set up at college for me (i.e. can't actually do anything).
