I know what you mean about crowd noices though. When the original FIFA was released on the Megadrive I remember the chanting were some of the best crowd effects I ever heard, I am suprised that EA havent followed in that trend. I too hope that developers get the right authentic chants to suit each ground, and help add to the atmosphere. I would sacrifise the commentary for better unique crowd effects.
You've only got to look at the PSX2s version of Fifa 2001 to know realism is the key factor to its unrivalled success.
Having purchased a copy of the game recently, I know of its capabilities (AND BELIEVE ME ITS STUNNING). However, don't get me wrong here but knowing that this machine is a 128bit and we are now in the year 2000, how is it that the atmosphere inside every ground never quite "cuts the mustard" so to speak. Its been the same story for every football game on every console. If only we had recorded sounds from actual games put in, we would have the finished article e.g. 'you'll never walk alone' heard from the kop at Anfield nearing the end of a great victory, or chanting as demonstrated so well at Old Trafford by the Man Utd fans.
It just seems to be a little disappointing when you score a goal or a bad challenge comes in and it sounds like you get more excitement at midnight mass in church. Surely it is'nt impossible to do. I dont know, maybe it is too time consuming or the crowd noise would overshadow the commentary, but at the end of the day, the home crowd at any football game anywhere in the land wins you the game. Lets hope we see an improvement in our virtual grounds in the future to make them winners too.
