At last I have finally bagged myself a copy of Zombie Flesh Eaters on DVD. It has been banned since 1980 I think but this DVD version is the original extreme uncut version. It is one of those cult horror classics and if any film influenced the great Resident Evil series then this must surely be it. It comes with a strict label "This film is likely to offend some people", so you have been warned!!.
The story is reasonably good as you would expect from an 80's horror flick. The main characters, a reporter and a girl searching for her father, go to a far away island to search for him. Only problem with this place is the dead are rising fast and killing anyone in there way. There are a lot of close encounters as per usual and a lot of gruesome killing scenes. The effects are brilliant, some can be sickening to watch but they make the film what it is. After watching it through I can see why they banned it for so long!! There are a few twists along the way, the best being at the very end where Zombies have risen in New York.
Anyway this is one horror film that I have been after for a long time. By todays standards it may just look like a cheap, low budget flick but considering it was made in the late 70's I think it stands up rather well to todays horror. The effects are brilliant and as real as possible, the story line while at times it is a bit weak and perhaps a bit corny still left me wanting to watch it again. I will say it again this is a cult classic. The time it was made matches all other cult horror such as The Exorcist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and remains the best era for this genre.
The DVD itself hasent got much on it. There is the original trailor, cast/crew filmographies, and thats about it. Rather dissapointing as they could have had added much more, but it doesnt spoil what is an otherwise great film.
If you are into horror then this is the one film to own, not because it was banned for so long but it is an example of how a proper horror movie should be made. Gruesome and well worth a scare!! I'll give it 8/10.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Wonderful...
... and so easy-to-use even for a technophobe like me. I had my website up in a couple of hours. Thank you.
