"Does Wayne Rooney deserve young sport personality of the year."

After watching sport personality of the year the other night i couldn't believe that Wayne Rooney recieved this award. He has only been known a few months and i have never heard him talk to the press have you?

Oh and out of the shortlist, Becky owen should have won, cos rooney didn't deserve it, and i don't regard shooting as a sport. At least owen was dedicated and professional and not getting paid loads for the honour of doing what she does.

Rooney doesn't have a personality anyway he is a little arrogant pikey and i would rather have given the award to the British young manure shovelling team than to him. His immaturity and arrogance was highlighted when he taunted Moore in the west brom game. He has done little to earn this award apart form getting sucked upto by the media. This award shouldn't have gone to a footballer this year, quite simply because there are no worthy candidates this year.

what I want to know is who else was on the short list for the young sports personality award. Surely there must be some young sports men/women from other sports that may have been in with a shout of getting the award.

*mutters under breath* team of the year, pah

he does deserve it. He only scored a couple of goals and gave Everton fans something to buzz about. But he does deserve it(!)

I don't think he deserved it but they had to give it to someone. When I heard about the young personality award, I was thinking about who should win and I couldn't think of anyone.

How many games has he played? About 10, and he's come on as a sub in each one, doing naff all really.

As good as he is, he didn't deserve it.

Honestly, I can't really thing of any other sports personallity worth considering for the award...!

And he did have a cracking game against Arsenal, scoring a great goal...!
And he's also scored several more in the Premiership and the League Cup...
And he also broke Michael Owen's records of being youngest player to do... everything (except play for England)!

The hype seems to have died-down on him recently, but it's true, he has been making all the headlines.


What about John O'Shea?
He's burst into the United first-team from nowhere (finally!) and really impressed us all! But as a defender, he hasn't made too many headlines.

What about James Beattie?
He's been scoring all-over the place this season for Southampton, and I believe he's currently the leagues' top-scorer too.

I'm not sure if he deserves it.

But thining about it logically, who else would you give it to?

I think he does. Sports personality is all about the headline that someone has made. Rooney has made any number of them, regardless of whether or not he is over-rated.

His goal against Arsenal will never be forgotten.

Nope, he doesn't deserve it. Neither did Michael Owen a few years ago, but that's the way these things work...
