First a little note, this post may end up long and boring.

I was watching outbreak last night when i began to think about what an amazing race we think we are. We are the species at the top of the food chain, we cage lions and tigers in zoos, and sharks in the aquarium for entertainment. Each of these animals would tear us limb from limb if we were in the wild without our trusty shotgun. Yet we still claim to be the superior race. Sometimes i wonder. Perhaps it is because we invented weapons that we are superior?

Yet we rely on them to such an extent to cure evils, that perhaps in the end we are inferior. Anyway thats not the main point. Even though we have these weapons and have explored space we are still weak. A protein coat and a strand of DNA could wipe out the human race, so small that we can only see the smallest glimpse with an electron microscope, yet it can cripple our bodies. Look at the death caused by the HIV virus. And god knows what would happen if Ebola was unleashed.

So small a thing, yet it can cause so much fear and doubt. Much like the one ring in the lord of the rings books.

Then i remembered that i watched bicentennial man. Here was a robot trying to become human, but you have to ask why? The robot was immortal, and inorganic,a robot trying to become a human is like a human wanting to be a dog. Its demotion. This robot was totally safe from feelings and emotions, like a vulcan, its a higher state of conscienceness.

Then remembering about other robots i remebembered terminator 2 judgement day. Now this was some serious crap, SKYNET manufacturing killing machines to destroy the human race. The human race had designed SKYNET from microchip to circuit board, and then it turned on us. Almost exactly like a virus using the host before it destroys it.

And then i realised something that didnt quite make sense, the killing machines were totally inorganic, yet they still faught us like a traditional soldier I.E with weapons. Since SKYNET is an advanced AI surely it would be wanting to lose as few units in battle as possible. After all thats only human.

Yet the swiftest and most decisive move to conquer earth would have been for SKYNET to introduce a virus into the amosphere, this attack would be devastating, the infection would be global, and perhaps only a few pockets of resistance would be met. As opposed to coming up against whole underground guerrila fighting forces.

Perhaps this oversight could be called human error.

If the virus had a protein coat which was engineered to survive in air, I.E an Airborne virus, it would quite easily survive the atmosphere. It is true that it may not affect everyone, since it will be carried wherever the wind takes it. Therefore a virus introduced into the water supply of key cities may be more effective.

You couldn't distribute a virus into the atmosphere, it'd be dead or ineffective by the time it got down to our level, and not everyone would be exposed.

Besides, it wouldn't take something as grand as that anyway, just release something like Ebola or Smallpox in key international cities, sit back, and watch the world go to hell. A recent simulation in the US simulated a deliberate smallpox attack with releases in 3 city malls, estimates put the 3 month after death toll at about 3 million, with outbreaks all over the world.

Which is why terrorism has to be ahnilated, ripped out, because if anything like Outbreak happened by a deliberate action in real life, we all know the consequences, certainly in America's case anyway;

well, human strength lies in human intellect, rather than physical superiority.

As long as we can outsmart nature, we are better than it. In a way we are above nature. The law of nature is survival of the fittest. The law of humanity is survival of the most inventive.
