In your opinion a Celeron 2000 is the same as ..... Pentium 4 or a ...... Athlon.
I know other stuff such as memory/motherboard etc has a bearing.
Is the Celeron any good for games like UT2003 ?

I would compliment a Celeron 2000 with DDR Memeory and a Geforce 4 TI4200 (with 64mb DDR)

A Celeron 2000 will be fine to play all games out now but it also depends on your graphics.

I realise the cache difference and basically you het what you pay for, but I have read that nowadays the Celeron's are fine for playing games like UT2003, whatever processor you buy now will probably need upgrading next Xmas anyway.

I'd also recommend an Athlon, as pound for power you can't beat them.

The celeron is bassically a cut down version of the P4 is has less cache and therefor performance is crappy, but it will play all games out at the moment but you would be better of getting an athlon system or a higher spec athlon xp system (i.e maxx xp 2000+) if you are looking for a spec that will last you a while.
