in rome total war how do you beet spartan hoplites
i may have got the unit name wrong but i am on about the greek units with red capes, huge pikes, very powerfull. they dont run very ofen.
in one of the historic battles you have to take a city with them clogging the streets.
my question is how do you beat them?
cavalry is useless even eles.

i was thinking of useing archers as the hoplies are slow and archers automattically run from anything that coems near and then fire, but thats little use because they have armour. what is their weakness other than the fact they are easy to ovoid?

Spartan hoplites deploy in a phalanx formation, that is they deploy in a rectangle with all the spears facing one direction. If you can isolate individual hoplite units keep them busy with spearmen from the front and then charge them with cavalry from the rear, they will die quicker. Unfortunately they are the most elite unit in the game, so they are never going to roll over, and the battle you refer to is hard as nails, I never beat it (although I didn't persevere very long).
