It could be because I just managed to create my first ever Guild in an online game called Legend of Mir. (OK, so I had an Alliance in Planetarion which got slaughtered but that wasn't really mine, I just took it over).
Doing this in Mir isn't easy, you need a WoomaHorn which either costs you a bomb when you buy it from another player or costs you a bomb it you nab it from a fiece monster in the game called WoomaTaurus, which is ruddy difficult.
It took me 15 months to finally achieve this. 15 MONTHS OF GAMING. True, I could have done it sooner but I had other goals to achieve first, like getting to a high level and getting some nice items for my online characters. But this was my final goal, and it's now DONE!
So now I can go back to regular playing again, because having taken advice from other Guild Leaders and going on past experience, it's better not to have any members in your Guild at all, because they annoy you all the time with silly questions. Of course this makes things like Guild Wars a little tricky, but I can always just logout during them and wait for the 3 hours time limit to expire then log back in during peacetime when the odds aren't 100 to 1.
Now, just for a bit of fun, I'm off with my Guild (aka just me) to declare war on the biggest Guild in the game to keep them on their toes for the next 3 hours whilst I hide behind a tree or something.
Interestingly, the last time I felt like this was just after I'd completed Final Fantasy 7 for the first time. It's like a mixture of huge relief and a big smile on my face all at once.
Which makes me question what gaming is all about nowadays. I seem to get my biggest kicks from the long term rewards of completing a full game rather than the short blast fests like the odd race in Gran Turismo or one of the challenges in Time Splitters 2. But the fact that I feel relieved once a long term goal is met makes me wonder if I now consider gaming 'fun' or 'work'.
It must be fun or else I wouldn't be doing it, would I...?

I was so ace back then, I got other people to pay for me. Now I'm a tramp idling in a few disused irc channels, pretending I'm still important.
