We're lucky in Britain. We're given a large understanding of maths, english, and science. There are many countries that don't get the same sort of treatment.

But today I want to discuss something. There's a rather strange thing that's been put upon education over years.

Education = intelligence.

This is so not true... but it's just another of those lovely things that we're taught so we all accept.

Somewhere along the line of human development, people worked out that to be labelled as superior is a way of encouraging people to work. You work hard enough you'll get a lovely prefix to your name, or a stupid thing to add to the end.

It doesn't matter how quick you add, and it doesn't matter how well you understand science, in the end, you're no different to anyone else.

Sure, we all have our strengths. But to have strengths is not an excuse to feel 'above' anyone.

It's not different than bloody artists. Scientists, doctors, all of them. All egotistal fools. They make a difference only in a tiny percentage of what makes up life, but to them, their percentage is the most important.

Here's todays lesson. Keep an open mind, eh? The world is made from thousands of little details. It doesn't matter what area you specialise in, as long as you're good, as long as you're happy, then you're intelligent in my book.

I see.

In which case, I wholeheartedly agree with you!

You missed out artists in the quote.

I'm not saying every last one of them is an egotistical git, I'm just fed up with those that think they are.

And tell me, would you rather live a long and boring life, or live a short and fantastic one?

This is why the artists and performers are just as important as the scientists and the doctors. They both, on each side, make a huge difference in our lives. There is no higher point on either of their sides.

If you didn't have fun, what would be the point in living? And if you were having fun, wouldn't you want to live longer?

Doctors, firemen, ambulance people, they all get the right sort of credit they deserve. It's just it's off balance of how much credit people in other jobs deserve.

Come on, you can live without a burgerboy, sure. But can you live without the creativity of humans, in either side? Can you live without the creativity of science, or could you live without the creativity of man? What would we be if we couldn't express ourselves in some way?

This isn't a go at doctors and scientists. It's a go at people who think they're more important.

This post is probably in danger of sounding wrong but anyway:

I think these kinds of people make more of a difference than you are giving them credit for. I mean, without doctors and scientists, who would cure illnesses etc.

Sure, no-one is perfect and possibly some of them are egotistical(sp?) but they do make quite a large difference. At the risk of sounding blunt: "whats life if you are dead?"

*I'm in two minds whether to leave that last sentence in because I don't think it really says what I am trying to say. I'll leave it in and hopefully you understand*

I see (and agree with) what you are saying with the topic - maybe I've just got the wrong end of the stick with this bit?
