The DC and N64 had 4 ports but both consoles memory cards go in the Controllers and dont need to go on the console. so they only need space for 4 ports not 8.
seeeee :) well has jus what i think. but seeee :)
Also, when games are this good, who needs friends anyway? :-)
PC developers (sim developers in particular) often questioned adding multiplayer conectivity to their games. Surveys showed that the multiplayer option was only used by a small percentage of "hardcore" users even though it was an often requested feature.
With regards Sony's machine, I guess it is difficult to justify on both the grounds of cost, and also asthetically it would ruin the design.
I'll bet out of all the playstations sold, only a small percent were used by more than two players. The sales of PS1's verses multitap adaptors would be an indicator to this.
Additionally, anyone who wants to get four people around a Playstation are not prevented from doing so, multi-taps are nothing cost wise (give up fags for a week or forego the friday night booze-up). I'd rather have the option of buying the multi-tap than have to pay extra for a machine feature I wouldn't use.
Simple really.
Those who might balk at the expense of this are likley to be those youngsters still in education, if you've got a PS2 at home then you probably have accuired a few friends :-) but since they probably didn't PAY for the machine in the first place it's chirlish for them to complain (ungreatful beggars). They want four ports, they can ask their parents. They should have stated it was a functional requirement in the first place :-)
Enough wittering from me.
