The Lone gunmen was a short-lived spin off of the X-files, showcasing the three paranoid writers and producers of a paranoia magazine who were often seen 'helping' Mulder and Scully with their cases.

When it first aired in the US it got a luke warm reception, but many X-files fans loved it. The show lasted for 13 episodes and was successful enough to get picked up by Sky in this country and shown on Sci-fi.

Now, the problem here is that only 12 episodes were shown in this country, we didn't get to see the pilot episode. The reason? Well, the whole episode was based on a terrorist plot to fly a radio controlled plane in to the World Trade Centre. Obviously this was filmed way before September 11th 2001, but it was scarily similar to the actual event that took place on that day. Fox television very sensibly decided not to show the pilot episode at the time due to the nature of the plot, but as it stands, it remains a very important reminder of how art can imitate and sometimes pre-empt life.

So, should we see the episode now? Well, I believe that it would be interesting as a piece of history and as a remark on how close the plot came to the actual events. Of course, even now the subject is still sensitive, but the programme is fictional and should be given an airing, perhaps in a better context with a separate programme before it, examining the plot and the whole coincidence of the events within.
