I'm a couple of weeks from starting on the same path, and want to pester you!
Were you ACA or ACCA? (I'm ACA)
What was the training experience like for you?
How heavy did you find the academic workload?
What advice would you give to me, just starting?

My boss had a 2 strikes and you're out in his job contract when he was doing his exams - he failed a few but managed to pass them the second time so he was OK.
Also something I forgot to mention is that in some accounting training jobs once you're qualified you have to leave to make way for the next trainee. My boss had 6 months I think it was after he qualified but he managed to get a job in that time.

Not for mine - 50%+ = pass, 49% or below = fail. No "near miss" or "referral" like at University and no grades just pass or fail.
If I fail, but not by too much, I'm allowed one chance to resit. I'm very scared of blowing it, losing my job, and ending up with nothing but an expensive property lease to pay off :^(

The biggest problem at the moment though is trying to get somewhere to live. I have to start a week on Tuesday o_O
I combined working full time with studying so if you're doing that I'd suggest starting off slow with 1 and certinally no more than 2 exams at a time and make sure you have plenty of time each week for leisure time as I took on too much to start of my studies and ended up resenting them which severely effected my studying and life in general.
I opted for distance learning as I couldn't (well wouldn't)afford the time to go to Derby University twice a week for 2 hours a time to see a tutor and it worked for me as I'm pretty disciplined and stuck to a learning programme that suited me.
My employer couldn't offer me any study release and I'd only end up doing the same amount of work in less time but they do pay for all my subs etc which is worth about £500 a year.
If you try and get a day release or study support job be careful about the small print - if you fail your exams quite a few companies fire you and it was one worry I certinally didn't want but with these kind of jobs you have a better chance of passing so it's a balancing act between the risk of getting fired but having a better chance of passing or having job security but having to put in more studying out of work time to pass the exams.
Best of luck!
