Racism is just plain stupid. We all do it without realising it. Racism is a bit of a generalisation; it’s more stereotyping, really. That we definitely all do. Just the other day I was thinking how annoying French people are (I’m half-French, actually), not even realising what I meant by it. In today’s society, we just use what we hear and build upon it, from the media and people, to make statements that we don’t know the true meaning of. You could argue that people have the right to say what they feel, but all too often people don’t KNOW what they feel. The whole thing about Jews having big noses is a load of balls. Christianity is the one religion that I’ve never heard being stereotyped, or insulted. Why? Only because of size. There are so many more Christians compared to Jews, or even Muslims, connected to high points of power (not through unfair reasoning, as it would have been a long time ago) that people can’t compare. I bet you might not have known that both (just exampling again) Ali G and Sarah Michelle Gellar are Jewish. Do they have huge noses? Have they ever launched any attacks on ordinary people like some governmental people might have?
It’s because we generalise. We take in actions of few people and use them to bad extent if they are bad, and vice-versa if they’re good. And I mean everyone. SOME Israelis have done it because SOME Palestinians attacked SOME of their people. So this is why they still attack Palestinians, and Palestinians still attack them back. The same can be said about America. They killed as many Afghans, maybe more, as Americans were killed in 9/11, all because SOME people had they’re opinions, and couldn’t realise that they were also generalising, or that killing ordinary people to infuriate others wouldn’t have a made a the biggest difference if the 9/11 victims were all alive.
And it’s the same with racism. In earlier times, there was a lot of racism, but they’re not worse than us. They just spoke they’re minds, regardless of whether they talking a load of balls. From their, society moved on and became quieter in it’s discrimination, so the people who do speak their minds are considered as evil, if they’re actions are slightly disagreed in those minds of the opposition. And this is the same with the opposite scenario.
Why is society the way it is? It just IS. Can’t people accept things for the way they truly are? EVERYONE is equal; it’s just about conflicting opinions that you can’t stop. You could argue it would be easier if we all lived in a Society where there was no building, selling, or anything of conflict, but we would create problems out of it anyway.
Ants think they rule the world. Why shouldn’t they? Us humans think the same thing. People just adapt to the way the live; the fact that ants don’t have T.V or computers doesn’t make a difference to this – they don’t know what those things are. And if an animal other than us did, they would accept it and be jealous. We’re jealous of the fact that birds can fly – they accept it as a given. Other Animals are probably jealous of our huge power – we accept it as a given.
I could go on, but I would be going over points mentioned before (and I’m tired, yeah, feeble, sure). Society is strange, but it’s the way it is, and we can’t change it. Even if we could, our minds would find something wrong with it. Some things are a shame, others the opposite. We can’t just change society immediately – it’ll change with time. Who knows? Maybe, 100 years from now, Wales will be deemed as cool and the law will prohibit people wearing toupees. We, and always will, have to accept this life, and enjoy what we can. And if that’s Dr. Pepper, discussion about monkeys with some Oasis on in the background, then so be it.
