You're right, Mattyboy.

The official story was the GL wanted to get all of the films out of the way, and *then* concentrate on the DVD's.

He didn't feel that DVD's were being used to their full potential, and he wanted to do something really, really special with the Star Wars films - i.e. tons of extras, lots of interactive stuff, etc.

However... the last thing I heard was that he'd caved in to fan pressure and was going to start work on at least one disc for release in 2001. Can't remember which particular film it was, though - original Star Wars or 'Episode I'. I really must pop back to the Star Wars site...

I saw an interview with George Lucas ages and ages ago and he was talking about bringing Star Wars to DVD. He said he will once Episode's II and III are complete but he has something special planned.

Actually, I think Georgey Porgey said that DVD was a fad, and didn't expect it to take off.

He then realised his mistake, which he often doesn't do, and said about 2006.

Great. Whoopie do.

It is possible to buy the Star Wars Trilogy and Phanton
Menace on VCD - see www.absmusic.com or www.sazuma.com.

Georgey boy decided not to bring them out on DVD yet mainly because he wants to wait until all 6 films are finished and have new footage etc. Then the studio is
going to bundle the lot as a 6 DVD offer and he'll make an
absolute fortune!

George Lucas doesn't think that DVD is ready for Star Wars yet.

Maybe he's waiting until he has time to do something really special with it.
