Basically the cost of games is determined by retailers. You know HMV throw an extra £10, because it's in their shop (hence why mail order is so cheap). Anyway apparently the future of games lies in burning. I don't know much about this, but from what I gathered they take a CD and then burn the game on! How they do, I don't know, but hey its cheap and LEGAL!!! There is however a downside, you see machines that burn games cost £30,000+ according to MagX, so you cna imagine when they finally become present technology, HMV will probably have three maximum. Can you imagine the queues as eager gamers wait to have their CD burned??? Now I have not seen this machine, but MagX says you take a blank disc and queue for a kind member of the shop to literally burn on the actual game. Normal games have a graphic top of the CD and then a black bottom. Now all the machine does is burn the pattern of the game you require onto the blank disc where the normal black bit goes.
Obviously this sounds stupid and you probably don't believe me, but hey that's your choice! Anyway (for those that beleive me and MagX) in the far off future wouldn't it be good if you could download or buy the burn patterns and then make your own games. Now our world is not a perfect one and people may (read: WILL) take advantage of this, so maybe an online ordering burning pattern could happen. BUT then you would have to fork out the ££££'s to own a copying machine or gain access to it. However, people are bound to do something illegal with these copies eg sell them to someone so I don't think this will happen, unless strict security can be introduced........but thinking about it PC owners can download games and MP3 owners can download music, so why couldn't console owners get their own burn patterns???
* I know this section is The Future Of Gaming and that's is what I've written about, but I feel people may criticise me for using MagX, which is fair enough. I'd just like to say that I DID NOT get the idea of downloadable burn patterns from a magazine, that idea is from my own head!
