Every year we are subjected to the "hilarious shenanigins" of minor D and E-list celebrities, and who really wants to see it? Not me. I have to admit, I did see a bit of it this year's programme on Friday. Was I impressed? Hell no. Did it make me want to donate money? Hell no. This time I saw the following - a group of news readers and weather people in drag singing terribly and dancing around out of step with each other, some of the worst mining jobs ever from the likes of Enrique Iglesias, loads of people doing impresions of Elvis and David Dif**kinson saying "hot f*f**k" instead of "hotfoot". Which was mildly amusing. But apart from that last one, it didn't do anything for me.
"But it's all in the name of fun and for a good cause", you might say. Fair enough, I suppose you're right. But it just doesn't float my boat. Like The Office it always makes you cringe. However in the same way that it makes The Office genius, it renders Children In Need completely the opposite. Because these are real people, not fictional. I just sit there thinking "why?". I can't picture anyone thinking "He's making a t*t out of himself and I'm not laughing.....hey, I'm gonna donate!".
Comic Relief is a different matter - it actually has some funny bits. If it can make me laugh the least I can do is donate. Children In Need doesn't do this, and is a completely stale format - every year we get Terry Wogan and Gabby Roslin pretending to be excited by another bunch of idiots from the public doing stupid stuff like poking themselves in the eye with a red hot poker to raise money. And we get this every year and Comic Relief every two years...why can't it be the other way round?
And to make matters worse it's on a Friday, so the good programmes like Have I Got News For You have to be cancelled.
Anyway, that's my case against Children in Need. In my opinion they should show all the normal programmes that actually are funny and display the number in the bottom corner or something - I'd be much more likely to donate.
I would've said this more eloquently and made it longer but I'm tired and need food and sleep. So........discuss.
And I didn't watch all of it, Asher. I only watched some of it for Alice Cooper, who wasn't that good anyway, but still the best thing on it.
*cries*
> Red Nose Day is cool
I reckon it's just as bad - people doing stupid things with red noses on and yet more moron celebrities rolled out of deep freeze by the BBC, ITV, and anyone else who wants to seem like caring. Here's an idea, instead of putting on endless costly programs, and live broadcasts, don't bother and give the money to charity.
~~Belldandy~~
Shame on you.
*shudders*
