When it comes to piracy, an issue that I feel causes it is because of the computer magazines, the reviews will assure us that this games is the next big thing, a mix between, Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy they will promise as you put it on to discover it is more Rise of the Robots and Ultraman. I think that if magazines were able to score games fairly the public could trust their reviews and be sure they are parting with their hard earned cash for a good game. I was in limbo whether to buy SmackDown 2 or WWF Royal Rumble. After reading the reviews on this site I opted for SmackDown 2. I find that I can trust the reviews on this page as they are by fellow gamers. However it is very rare that I would buy a game based on a review from Official Playstation, because I am sure that they don’t even play the game sometimes. So I implore more people on this site to tell us about the games, we won’t waste time and money on games not suited for us.

Or perhaps a request section where we can ask about games

What we need to remember is that the people that review these games are only human. They're going to have likes and dislikes that may not be as yours are. I think the best way to get a decent view is to read lots of different reviews, and get the opinions of those that have played the game.

Well, two if you count Ready 2 Rumble 2 - but i didn't, as it's more comedy value than fighting.

I'd have to disagree with that. With pretty much every PS2 available between now and March already spoken for, their potential readership is already established.

Very, very true. At the moment, you have a choice of - count 'em - one fighting game. Two by the end of this month!

I personally am not so sure of this. While the magazine itself is multi-format, I doubt the reviews will be any less biased. I think they have sections for each machine, and the people reviewing PS2 games are just as likely to be PS2 fans as anyone working at either Official PS2, or PS2, PSM2 etc.

Your right the Official magazines are pants, the problem with the official magazines is that every game reviewed gets a good or average mark...even if the game is absolute rubbish. Here on the forums people give their own opinions, were not biased because were trying to push a games system.
Be warned people the most hiddeous mistakes occur at Christmas were gaming magazines rush to review half finished games that arent released yet.. hoping that theyll be good..but alot of rubbish games get put out just to get the Christmas rush.
Also watch out for every PS2 only magazine, they wont review strictly as they need to get up the sales of PS2 units to increase their own circulation. Also as theres very few PS2 games at the moment, comments such as "The Best PS2 Fighting Game" doesnt really mean anything because theres no real competition right now, be afraid be very afraid of buying a £40 duff PS2 game. Your best getting a magazine that reviews a range of systems, like edge...or reading this Forum, if a game is pants well tell you.
I think that people get very annoyed when they shell out for a game that was reviewed as the best game ever only to find out that its poor, people then feel cheated and I can understand why they turn to Piracy as a means of trying out games...but remember there are alternatives like renting before you buy, or getting the opinions of fellow gamers on these forums.
