Sega may not be around for much longer. Give them a few years, and they'll fade away into the background never to be seen again.
It is something we hardcore gamers will have to face up to. And unless Sega pulls it's imaginary finger out, it will happen.
So what can be done to stop it? The only decent thing that they can do is to stop making consoles.
Yes. I know people like me, who loved the Master System, Gamegear and Megadrive, and those who loved the Dreamcast as well, will be resistant to this idea. But if we face facts, it's a good idea.
Shinobi first said this, on the Dreamcast site, by the way, just expanding on it.
Shinobi, (A great Sega game...), suggested that Sega pull out of the market now, while they can. He then said that Sega, like we all think, should just make games.
That's how they started, and that's how they should end.
(Start as you mean to go on, then, in a way.)
Yeah.
Rumours of it happening have been flung around the web like poo in a monkey cage. And of course joining up with Nintendo as well.
The best option, for us, would be to join up with Nintendo. And that is what I want to happen. But it won't.
Shinobi made a interesting point, saying that after Sega redeemed itself making games in the business, what's to stop it from doing what it did last time, and make a console that could compete with competition?
This is THEIR best approuch... Or is it?
Typically, The Master System didn't do all that well to begin with. The Megadrive overtook the Snes in the end though, and the Gamegear flopped like a fish out of water.
So Sega face three, very different choices...
1) Release a console now. The effect of this on Sega could be devasting. But then, Rareware took a gamble along the lines of what Sega must do now, and they ended up as the best developer on Earth. The game that saved Rare was Donkey Kong Country, by the way.
2) Produce just games, for other systems, especially the Cube. Sega and Nintendo are both very well respected by each other, and often Shigs would be seen at Sega conventions, and Sususki at Spaceworld. Imagine a game created by both of those genius minds! The splendor of Zelda, combined with the epic proportion of Shenmue! It would be a joy to play...
3) Fade back to games, releasing them on every format going, to raise money for a new console. Although this means more money for Sega, their reputation for doing this could fall like a barbie off a bridge.
I say 2. And although 3 is a good choice for Sega, and 1) seems like a quick fix, it is only two that seems like a reasonable answer.
By the way, I totally support Dreamcast, but the Dreamcast alone is not going to SOS. Or Save Our Sega...
it's because they're JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HEAR ME!!! JEALOUS!!!!!! I SAID THEY ARE JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!
