Has anyone got this? Is it actually any good?

I understand there's a bit of a furore over the DRM contained within the game. Something about you can only install it 3 times or something?

Reviews seem to have been taken down from Amazon. The ones that are up are generally only 1 star.

Anyond had any hands on?

I think you do kinda get people who think they're being ATTACKED when something is.. completely harmless, opinion, and er, fiction.

More Spore. Got to the Universe stage. Much better than the two before it, but still.. hm. Seems like a giant game now, but the section where you control mechanical units to fight is.. so damn pointless.

incidently has anyone read that website (antispore.com)? some nutty christian thinks its attacking religon and god and they want people to stand up against it.

Frankly he can go to hell. Spore does not mean the game is creating demon "sporen" (see what i did there?)

Incidently, someone must stamp out the sick sporn thats coming out.

There are some exciting moments in that game. Nothing beats storming an enemy HQ witha large number of people to cover your back and you covering theres. Its just a shame that the AI is so good that they don't need your help to accomplish that task. Hell one battle i ran around aimlessly trying to figure out where to go next or how to kill people effectively and they eventually completed the mission for me.

concerning spore, i'm more interested in fallout 3 tbh or prototype. It looks nice, but is it any good?

As you rightly say, you're having fun - that's what it is about:)

Didn't concern me. Generally its got a favorable opinion on metacritic. Yes it has its flaws, but damn it i knew that when i came in. I simply wanted more stalker. Its immensely entertaining at times and others its fustrating not to mention down right annoying especially when i've completed the orginal and loved it.

Its only crashed on me twice. twice more then the orginal in fact. But generally i'm having fun with it and thats all that matters. I'll have to complete it to see how bad it really gets.

Pretty fair comment. Bought Mercenaries 2 the other day, not thinking of course. Then the pre-game credits popped up and cried in disbelief that I bought an EA game (yes, should have been more in touch with the game world I guess...). Always seem to buy the sports games though... :/

Have you seen PCG 192 October issue? Clear Sky gets 68% and a few choice comments:

"...More broken than its parent, and ultimately far less engrossing.."

"...faction warfare is simply no fun.."

"...what cannot be smoothed away are the bad design decisions..it's not a worthy follow-up.."

and so forth and so on.

Gave up on original myself - it just lost its 'charm' after multiple crashes, stuttering gameplay and repetitive 'missions':(

The first section is like a slightly more fun version of "eat the bigger fish" flash game

Then it's a tiny RPG where you go and try and find more arms and legs and hands and mouths etc.

Then it's dull.

Dull

Boring

By that time it was just.. ugh, why am I doing this, I don't care any more now.

Does the DRM recognise re-installs? Because if not that would be a real drag, as you often find software conflicting with each other, drivers going walkies etc. There already is a "ways around" according to an Amazon review, plus a quick torr... search seems to confirm this. Here's a snippet of the best review I've seen (from play):
Overall, this game is a HUGE disappointment. They could have done a lot more with the game play. EA seem to ruin most games they touch. They should just stick to their sport games.
